Ekklesiapark Retirement Community, 2 Park Lane, Blairgowrie, Randburg, is celebrating its 50th birthday this year !
Founded on the 19th of October 1968 under the auspices of the Dutch Reformed Church, 50 years later it is still functioning under Tutela, the service arm of the Church, as part of their services to the elderly and other persons in need of care.
To commemorate and celebrate this special milestone, we planned a series of celebrations during the course of the year.
It commenced with the Autumn Breakfast on the 5th of May, presented by Friends of Ekklesiapark, a group of Dutch Reformed congregations involved in community service at the the retirement village. We were fortunate to have the former SABC newsreader, Riaan Cruywagen, as our special guest speaker. Riaan gave us a nostalgic and interesting reflection on the history of Randburg over the past 50 years, interspersed with humorous snippets from his broadcasting career, that had everyone in stitches!
We were also fortunate and blessed to have a few of the founding members of Ekklesiapark present.
The residents spent a joyous morning reminiscing and reconnecting with friends.
The Spring Family Day on the first of September invited family and friends to share and enjoy a lovely spring tea and lunch.
It was a memorable celebration that brought together grandparents, children and grandchildren to interact and have a good time.
The 19th of October marks the actual founding day of Ekklesiapark. A special birthday lunch has been planned for all the residents to celebrate the occasion.
To conclude the year’s celebrations, a special dedication and Holy Communion Service is planned on the 4th of November at the Randburg-Suid Dutch Reformed Church at 9H00, to give thanks for the grace Christ has granted our community and the Retirement Village.
